Television – It is really positively impacting your life?

Television – It is really positively impacting your life?

For some reason I was thinking about television this morning at 4 am in my fit of insomnia.  I have been spending a good amount of time in recent weeks with family members that seem just freaking glued to it most of the time.

And I’m always like…. WHY?

I mean I get why really, its not like I never ever watch TV or haven’t in the past.  I’ve seen all of Sex and the City, How I Met Your Mother, most of Game of Thrones, Stranger Things seasons 1 and 2, and other programs that people have recommended.

Laughing is one of my favorite things to do in this world, so television shows that make me laugh are obviously benefiting me in the sense that they are bringing joy and happiness into my life.

Some programs actually do spread good messages, in which that could be helping people who are struggling with a number of issues.  Also some televisions shows can be educational for you. For one point in time I loved watching House because it made me feel like I was a doctor. 😜

But as all things in life, I think that television should be used in moderation.  Not every day, for hours of the day. No matter what you are watching.

Because my bottom line question for everyone is:

Don’t you want to LIVE YOUR LIFE instead of watching other people live theirs?

There are SO MANY cooler and more interesting things to do rather than watch TV.  Like literally thousands of activities and hobbies. That could truly positively influence your body and your mind.  Here is a list of things you could be doing with those hours that you are watching TV:

  • Take a walk outside
  • Garden
  • Play a sport with others
  • Learn to play a musical instrument
  • Dance and sing around to music (live or just in the privacy of your room!)
  • Draw or paint a picture
  • Read a book
  • Journal
  • Exercise – running, yoga, jumping rope, etc.
  • Learn to cook yourself something new and delicious
  • Spend time with friends
  • Spend time with family
  • Meditate
  • Go to a rock climbing gym
  • Join a meet up group in your area for something you’re interested in
  • Plan a trip somewhere you’ve never been before
  • Go on a trip somewhere you’ve never been before
  • Knit or sew
  • Clean (not as fun for others as me, but it does feel good after you do it ALWAYS)
  • Write a letter to someone
  • Take a relaxing bath
  • Go swimming
  • Spend time at the beach or your closest park
  • Go to an art gallery
  • Go to a museum in the area

Some people say… Well I’m not creative, I wouldn’t be good at that… Or I’m not athletic, I wouldn’t be goo at that… (insert a number of excuses)

And I want to say..

When was the last time you tried it out?

Just like anyone trying anything for the first time, you most likely will not be great at it.  But the more you do something, the better at it you will get!

The only reason that I can paint the way that I do, is because I never stopped!  I liked it since being a little girl, I just did it in my spare time. That’s it.

So maybe you have a talent or hobby that you are crazy good at or really enjoy – but you wouldn’t know because you have just never tried it out!  In my eyes, life is all about trying out new things and just seeing what sticks. Seeing what brings YOU the most joy and makes your heart sing.

Mine are:

  • Painting
  • Dancing
  • Singing
  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • Gardening
  • Being in  the sunshine literally anywhere

I’m not trying to bash TV – though some of the reality programs out there make me feel like my brain is rotting.  😝

I’m just suggesting that maybe the next time you go to turn on the TV for entertainment, maybe try to do something else instead.

Try to connect with yourself.

And some people say, ‘Well I would do that, but I don’t want to go/do it alone.’

Only when you are alone are you truly able to connect with yourself fully.  Don’t try to fight be alone, EMBRACE IT. Seek it out.

I personally do all my best work, painting, writing, etc. when I am completely alone.

For things like going to a rock climbing gym though, or going snowboarding, or doing whatever out in the world – some are afraid to go alone.   They find it scary. Which, I get, I still get scared sometimes when I go do things alone for the first time. But it’s conquering that fear that grows you as a person.  And I guarantee it will just make you braver.

Don’t let FEAR keep you from really living your life.  Don’t be afraid of what you will look like to other people.  Don’t let other people keep you from trying something new and achieving your goals. Ya, some people may think you’re a weirdo.  But, I say, ‘f*ck them.’

Who are they to judge you?  We are all weirdos in our own way!  And the weirder the better, in my eyes!  Because those are usually the people that know exactly who they are and don’t apologize for it.

The faster you can LET GO of your fears or anxieties or insecurities & simply go after whatever aspirations and dreams you have in life – the happier you will be.

So ya, that’s all I have to say about that.

One love! ❤️✌🏼
