A TRUST POEM

About the project…

The idea to make ‘A Trust Poem’ into a children’s book came to us when we were dating and living in Sedona together in 2020; when the pandemic began and caused a great deal of separation and suffering in the lives of many.  The words and illustrations carry beneficial messages that speak into trusting the timing and unfolding of life, being vulnerable, opening our hearts,  living in gratitude, and trusting the omnipresent, omnipotent, always-loving Source that created all of us, connects all of us, and has many names (God, The Universe, Great Spirit, etc).

Why support?

The ideas that children learn and connect with at the early stages of life carry an enormous impact on their later years and the world at large.   We pray that this book plants seeds of peace, unity, and positivity for them.  The book’s messages may also help shift the mindsets of the adults reading it into a more optimistic and hopeful vision of the future.  We believe it is more vital than ever for others to understand and believe the essence of the words – as we enter a point in history where fear and uncertainty are prominent worldwide.

More on the book’s inspiration…

To keep the power of simplicity, we titled the book, A Trust Poem.  It has an eye-spy element inside as there is a hidden raven and butterfly on each page for those to find. The main character is Zack, as he arrives and explores the sights of Sedona, Arizona, where he calls home now.  When I arrived in Sedona last year, I also fell in love with the magic, beauty, & unique vibration of this pocket of the world.  Many people find themselves pulled to Sedona to evolve in their own spiritual path, whether they are aware of it or not.  I have heard of people having sudden insights, revelations, or deep shifts take place simply by connecting with the land and its energy.  The illustrations in the book are a tribute and love letter to the enchantment and mystery that is Sedona.  I hope A Trust Poem inspires others to make their own pilgrimage to this land someday if they haven’t done so already.

Zack’s story with how to poem came to be

“The same year I wrote the poem, I was in the middle of a journey doing exactly what the poem says – letting go and trusting that there was more to life than what the culture or the system could provide.  I let go of ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ to explore life myself and God.  That year,  I had some creative inspiration to write poems and I was outside of a Starbucks in Bend, Oregon asking people if I could share a poem for some espresso.  Within 30 minutes of someone going to get me some espresso, I had written the poem by the time they came back.   It was such a reflection of the freedom and liberation I experienced through trust.  Ever since I wrote it, I recited it all around the country.”

Dreams for this project & beyond…

Our big dreams are that someday A Trust Poem reaches many parts of the world and is translated into multiple languages.  Our most immediate step in this dream printing our first 1,111 hardback copies.  At this time, we were only able to order two print prototypes – one to Zack in Sedona and one to me.  Zack has been showing the book around and has received lots of positive feedback and demand.  A few of the illustrations include highly frequented local businesses, which have offered to hold copies of the book for the public to read and purchase.  Through showing the prototype in person, we received enough donations to print our first 111 copies.  Once shipped, we will hold a book release party to sign and distribute these copies to those who donated, to local businesses, and to Sedona locals.

To meet our project goal of printing the first 1,111 hardback copies, we need to raise enough funds to print 1,000 more.   It is said in numerology that 1111 is the angel number of new beginnings.  With the help of this Kickstarter campaign, this would be the beginning of making our dream into a reality – allowing the message of A Trust Poem to reach the minds and hearts of people around the country.  With any extra funds we may have after printing and distribution, they will be reinvested into printing more copies so that we can self-sustain our publishing journey from here on out!

The stickers & prints will be of this illustration of A Trust Poem, which is also the front cover.

I dream of doing a book tour someday, stopping in different cities for pop-up distributions and readings in libraries, bookstores, elementary schools.  All is possible if it’s part of God’s plan!

AUTHOR

Zack is from Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Sedona in 2017.  He is very passionate about his work and fellowship at Wayside Bible Chapel in Sedona.  He helped grow their fellowship through his own commitment and sharing of Christ and promoting their Wednesday music night and Bible study.  He hopes to buy land for their fellowship, where they can sustainably live and grow food for the community.  I know that with his naturally giving nature, he will create more projects and opportunities for people to connect and help one another mentally, physically, and spiritually.

ILLUSTRATOR

My name is Brittany, but my spirit/painter’s name is Sundance & this is my first completed illustrated children’s book.  I am a self-taught artist that grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, but lived nomadically on the principles of this book for many years. I plan to continue creating books and artwork for people of all ages, with the purpose of positively impacting the lives of those they reach and our planet Earth.  My own dreams also include sharing my passions of art, music, dance, and healthy living with the St. Louis community and the world.  I know that through the creative arts, we are able to heal and connect more fully with ourselves and with the Divine.   Someday, I hope to help to have a space where I can hold creative workshops and start a permaculture garden.
